Chapter Thirteen
Andrew got to Ben restaurant, though they were other people present there, he spotted Claire amongst a group of people, he was about going to them when he heard Cindy,Ben girlfriend saying
“What do you mean by a secret boyfriend? I doubt Claire even has an admirer around her, she is too busy with work to notice anyone and i doubt if anyone noticed her too”
“What do you know about Claire to come to that kind of conclusion. Just so you know Claire has someone who notices her and he is not someone ordinary”he heard Alicia say and that got him intrigued, who else is after Claire, he thought as he waited for Alicia to continue.
“Who are you talking about?” A male and female who sat down with them asked in unison
“Just some one, a very rich and competent Ceo, His name is Andrew Black, must have heard of him right? He is Claire boyfriend”Alicia stated and though he was surprised by Alicia words, he was also grateful, she made the timing perfect, he thought as he moved to their table.
“Did someone just call my name?”He asked as he stared at everyone.
“Oh my God!”Alicia yelled out in shock,while Claire sat still, starring at him.
What is he doing here?how did he know where to find her? Those questions ran through her head while she kept on starring at him.
“What’s wrong? Looks like you have seen a ghost”Jessica said starring at Alicia while she turned to Andrew to keep on looking at him.
“Its a good thing you are here Andrew”Cindy said as she stood up moving towards him.
“Is he Andrew Black?”Drake asked Ben who nodded in silence.
“While we were trying to catch up on things,you were texting him to come right? That was why you were starring at your phone”Drake said to Claire giving her cheesy look.
“I wasn’t doing that!”Claire said quickly starring at Andrew who was also doing the same thing.
“You see Alicia told us something but I would like to confirm with you first,not that I don’t trust Alicia or Claire, I do but they exaggerate sometimes”Cindy said starring at Alicia who gave her a hateful glare and at Claire whose thought was running round with a lot of questions.
“Just that Alicia told us that you and Claire have something going on, is it true?”Cindy asked Andrew who stared at Claire.
She hope he will say no and let the issue drop but instead he gave her a smile and nodded.
“Its true, Claire and I are both seeing each other “He replied still starring at Claire.
“See! I told you so”Alicia said feeling triumphant, while drake and Jessica congratulated them both, Ben clenched and unclenched his fist in anger while Cindy gave Claire a look which showed how jealous she was.
Every one took their seats, Andrew chair had been placed beside Claire, while Drake and Jessica quizzed him about a lot of things, Claire kept on wondering what excuse she could give to leave.
“Right darling?”A voice said beside her and she stared at Andrew only to see that they were all starring at her.
Had he ask her a question and what’s with the darling? She thought.
“Am sorry my mind was some where else”Claire apologised plastering a smile on her face.
“I said that I was planning to propose to you but you told me to wait”He said and she stared at him and not knowing an answer to give, she nodded gently
“See! If it were up to me, I would be marrying her right now”he said making a joke out of the situation but Claire knew that he wasn’t joking.
“What are you waiting for Claire? If I were you I would really pin him down, a lot of girls want to be in your position”Jessica added jokingly.
“Let’s toast to Claire and Andrew happiness”Drake suggested and they did.
Andrew stared at Claire to see her looking uncomfortable, did he make the right decision by saying they were dating, she hardly look at him and only talk to him when Jessica or drake directed a question to them both.
He was still thinking of a way to approach her when he got a message.
“Make an excuse and leave, I feel
Uncomfortable with you here sir ”
He read the message which was from Claire and sighed softly, so am back to being referred to as Sir.
“I can’t leave, I have to play the role of
a devoted boyfriend, what will they
Think of me if I leave?”
He replied and it took some few minutes for her to reply.
“You don’t have to do it? Just make an
Excuse and leave, I will set it all right
When you do”
He read and stared at Claire who was now talking to Jessica.
He hasn’t replied yet, it meant he got her message, he would make an excuse and leave, she thought waiting for him to do so but instead he moved toward her and said softly into her ear.
“You would lose face if I leave, Cindy has been eyeing you all evening and Jessica along with Drake thinks of you as the most luckiest person right now, if I leave everyone would know for a fact that I lied and you will be back to square one and that is something I don’t want for you and so I will stay”he whispered and kissed her lightly on her head before moving away.
“So romantic”Jessica said as every one was now starring at them
“We might as well let you two get a room”Drake added making Claire blush
“You must be so happy Claire”Cindy said giving her a fake smile
“Of course she is,she have Andrew while you have Ben too”Alicia replied for Claire.
“That’s true Cindy, you and Ben get all crazy with each other, aren’t I right Ben?”Jessica asked Ben who was staring at Claire
“Ben”Cindy called touching his hand and he looked at them all, forcing a smile on his face.
“Am sorry! I was just thinking about the favourite desert I kept in the fridge, I think you will find it delicious, let me go get it, will you mind coming with me to get it ?”He asked starring at Claire who was surprised at first but then nodded and followed him.
“Its delicious! “Claire said as she took a bite from the cake
“Really?”Ben asked starring at Claire intently
“If i tell you that something of yours is good, then you should believe it”Claire said as she took another bite,leaving a cream on her nose.
“And you are still as clumsy as ever”he said as he moved towards and wiped off the cream from her nose.
“Always clumsy”Claire replied as she gave him a smile
“Are you really dating Andrew?”Ben asked suddenly and she hesitated a bit before answering
“I am” she knew it wasn’t right to keep up with the lie but it will also be worse if she told him the truth when everyone already believed them to be dating.
“And are you sure about your feelings for him?”Ben asked again
“O….of course I am, why are you asking?”She asked.
“Its because I feel that you are dating Andrew just to forget about me”Ben said as he moved towards her holding her hand
“If that is what you are doing, I want you to stop, I don’t want you making a decision that you will regret”He said looking very serious.
” I can assure you that I wouldn’t do anything that will make Claire regret being with me”
They both stared at the door way to see Andrew standing there and he looked very angry.
He walked towards them and pulled Claire to his side.
“You don’t have to worry about Claire, the time that you have to watch over her is over, am the man in her life now and I will do the watching”Andrew said making it known to Ben that Claire belongs to him.
“You don’t have to get worked up Mr Black, I was just being concerned for my friend, who knows, you might just be forcing her to do as you say”Ben replied not wanting to back off.
Andrew pulled Claire out of Ben office “Go back to the others,I have things to sort out with Mr Grand” He said and closed the door on her face when she tried to say something.
“Now that we are alone, I want you to be completely sincere with me, do you have feelings for Claire?”Andrew asked
“And what if I say I do “Ben replied
“It took you quite some years to realise it but you are too late, Claire is mine now and I won’t be losing her to you”Andrew told him fiercely.
“And am willing to fight to get her back too”Ben said
“Be prepared to lose then, I thrive on challenges, I wouldn’t be where I am today if I didn’t go through it, you will be facing a big opponent if you decide to fight for Claire”Andrew warned
“You only see Claire as a challenge right?”Ben asked
“I don’t see her as one, I love her, whether you believe it or not is your problem but get this straight, I love Claire and I won’t be losing her to you” Andrew finished and walked out of the room to see Claire pacing around the hall, definitely waiting for them.
“What happen? What did you say to Ben?”Claire asked as she moved past him wanting to go and check on Ben but Andrew pulled her instead.
“What are you doing? Let go!”She said but Andrew was far from listening and instead of pulling her back to the restaurant, he took her up stairs and it wasnt until they got to the roof top that he let go of her.
“What’s wrong with you ? “she asked touching the hand he had held
“You said you were over him?”He asked and she looked at him
“Of course I am, I already told you that…..”
“Then why were you going to him, if I hadn’t stopped you , you would have gone to him ”
“I was only going because I wanted to know what you told him”Claire replied
“Or perhaps you wanted to be with him, you still love him and your willing to get the crumb he throws at ….”He didn’t get to finish his words because she slapped him
“I already told you that I don’t feel a thing for him and you don’t have any right to judge me or tell me how I feel”She said turning to leave but Andrew pulled her back, kissing her forcefully.
Claire tried to pull away but no matter what she did, he seemed bent on having his way.
Some how he manage to pull her towards the wall and he deepened the kiss.
It was a while later that he let her go, he stood watching her and feeling angry with the way he had kissed her, she tried slapping him again but he held her hand.
“Angry that it’s me and not Ben kissing you?”He taunted and she pulled away from him in anger.
“Yes! Am very angry but not of what you accuse me of but because you are nothing more than a jerk who likes to play with people feelings. At least Ben made it clear to me that he will never see me the way I want him to but you…..”She stopped as she blinked back the tears in her eyes
“Claire I…..”
“You really keep your real feeling hidden. Your proposal of marriage yesterday and you pretending to be my boyfriend is all because you pity me right?”She asked cutting him off
“I do not pity you, I ……”
“I must have look like a fool to you and so you decided to take pity on a fool like me and propose marriage. You can stop feeling that way, this fool will get out of your sight “Claire said and before he could stop her, she ran off wanting to be alone.
As she took the step that led back to the restaurant, Claire wondered why it hurt so much!
She hadn’t felt this hurt before not even when Ben Chose Cindy as his girlfriend.
