Chapter Twelve
Claire taxi stopped in front of the hotel lobby and quickly she got out heading to the receptionist to get info on Andrew suite.
After a lot of persuading, she succeeded in getting the receptionist to tell her his suite number.
Claire got to the lift, pressing his suite floor, is she doing the right thing by going to him she thought as the lift took her up.
It doesn’t matter, he is sick and alone. One thing she has been taught by her grand ma is never to ignore someone who is sick.
She got to his door, ringing the door bell but no one came, she was about to knock when the door open.
A pale Andrew stood by the door starring at her and surprised to see her there.
“What are you doing here?”he croaked out
“I came to check on you”She said walking into the house with out him inviting her in.
She put the things she bought on the table and turned to him.
“I knew this would happen! You should have told me when I pulled you into the rain yesterday”Claire said
“What are you talking about?”He asked softly
“You are sick! Common,lie on the sofa while I help you get warm”she said moving towards him only for him to move away.
“I didn’t tell anyone that am sick? How come you know?”He asked with suspicion
“I guessed and you not showing up for work added to it”she replied
“I can take care of myself, you don’t need to worry”He said as he began to move but she moved towards him putting her hand on his forehead.
“You are burning Andrew, just do as I say, lie down while I take care of you “She said walking him to the sofa he had been sleeping on before.
She put the bed cover over him and went to a door, guessing it would be the bathroom.
She soaked a clothe and came back to him putting it on his fore head.
“I bought some cold medicine on the way and I also bought you some thing to eat, you should eat and then take the drugs before taking a nap”She said as he layed starring at her.
“You don’t have to look surprise, have always been taking care of Nick and my grandma whenever they have a cold and besides one thing I was taught was never to ignore a sick person”She said starring down at him.
“So just stay here while I attend to you, think of me as your personal nurse”she added and went to the package she brought earlier.
Andrew woke up to find himself in his suite, the cold clothe on his forehead felt a bit heavy and so he pulled it away.
After eating the porridge and taking the drugs, he slept off.
He looked at the time only to see that it was nine in the evening.
Had he dozed off for long, what about Claire had she left, he thought as he got out of the sofa.
He was heading towards his room when he heard a noise in the kitchen, he went there and saw her washing the dishes.
Knowing that she was still here made him feel relieved. If some one had told him yesterday that he would be taken care of by Claire today, he would never have believed.
Opening the door to find her there caught him off guard, he didn’t want her to see the weak side of him and had wanted her to leave but Claire being Claire got him changing his mind.
She was whistling while washing a plate and some how he felt satisfied just watching her.
As if sensing that she was being watched she turned.
“You are awake!”she said as she cleaned her hands on a dry clothe
“I thought you left”he said flustered at being caught
“I was just going to wash the dishes and leave”she replied as she moved towards him putting her hand on his forehead making his heart do a flip flop
“I think it has gone down a bit but you shouldn’t let your guard down, you still have to take the drugs”she said as she moved away from him
“I….I will and you should leave the dishes, the cleaning team will do it”he said
“Forget it,I have two perfect hands and I needed to do something to keep myself busy, do you know that you were cute when you were a kid?”She asked suddenly
“What?”
“I found an album and couldn’t resist going through it”she said as she went to take the album which had a photo of him when he was a kid
“Don’t look at it, it’s embarrassing”he said as he took the album from her
“That’s not true, you really were cute, though you are much more better now…..what did I just say!”She said as she put a hand over her mouth.
“You said I looked much better now”Andrew replied as he gave her a smile.
“Forget I said it, my mouth just say whatever pops out,I will finish the dishes and then leave”She said as she hurried back to kitchen.
“If only you know that you are driving me crazy “He muttered as he watched her hurry to the kitchen.
“Much more better now ” why did she have to say that, Claire thought as she walked out of the kitchen.
She had to leave before she say or do something more stupid, she thought as she went to get her bag which she had placed on the table.
Where did he go to,she thought as he was no where to be seen.
Its best if she leaves without him seeing her, she thought as she began to head to the door.
“Leaving with out saying goodbye”he said suddenly and she stopped.
She turned to see him standing by the doorway, fully dressed.
“I thought you were resting and not wanting to disturb you , I decided to let myself out”she lied
“I just went to get change, let me take you home”he said
“No! I will just take a taxi home, you don’t have to take me home…I mean it…just stay home and take care of yourself “she said quickly and moved fast to the door.
She was about to open the door when he wrapped his arms around her.
Claire stood frozen, wondering what had gotten into him.
“Wh….what are you doing?”she asked as she tried to move away only to be pulled closer.
“Stay”he said softly
“What?”
“Stay with me “he said again and still surprised by his sudden behaviour Claire stood still in his arms, wondering all sort of things before finally pulling away from him
“What are you doing Andrew?”She asked starring at him
“Claire there is something I need to ask you?”he said taking her hand in his and she looked up at him expectantly
“Will you marry me?”he blurted out the question and for a while she was lost for words.
“I know it’s all sudden to you but I want to make you my wife or better yet I need you to be my wife”he added when she said nothing.
“If you are saying this because I helped you tonight and……”
“I wouldn’t be asking you to be my wife just because you took care of me tonight!” He retorted cutting Claire off
“Then why?”Claire asked
“Its because i…..”he couldn’t get to finish his sentence because his phone began to ring.
“I think you should pick that”Claire said as she moved away from him.
Angrily he walked off to pick the call, while doing that Claire tried to recollect herself.
Seems like her dream is coming to reality, right now she is being asked to be his wife and the next thing will be her getting married to him just like she dreamt.
She should have listened to the voice in her, she should have just avoided him.
She had to leave,she thought as she opened the door and left the house as quietly as she could.
Luckily for her she got a taxi quickly and was safely in it when he began calling her.
She stared at her phone and switched it off completely.
She should have listened to her instinct and stayed away but no matter how hard she tried she always kept on meeting him.
“You didn’t try harder, so don’t blame your future for becoming a reality” the voice in her head spoke to her.
She didn’t try to avoid him enough, she thought as she stared at the dark night while the driver drove her back to her home.
THE NEXT DAY
Andrew parked his car in front of Claire house.
He wouldn’t have come if she hadn’t been avoiding his calls, he thought as he sat in the car starring at the house.
He hadn’t meant to tell her in that manner but the sickness and having to watch her leave got into his head and he blurted the whole thing out , well not really everything though, he hasn’t tell her about his feeling yet.
He dialled her number and received the same response yesterday.
He was about to go in when he saw Nick walking down the street, definitely he will know where his sister is,he thought as he got out of the car.
“What a surprise”Nick said welcoming him with a smile
“I just came to ask for Claire,I can’t reach her and….”
“She must be at Ben’s”He replied
“Ben?”Andrew asked feeling a bit uneasy
“Well not her alone, they are having a class reunion party, i wasnt in their class so I have no reason to go but…..”
“I will talk to you later Nick, I have to leave first”Andrew said as he went back to his car, Having Ben close to Claire is dangerous, she might say she is over him but Ben attitude towards her tells him something different.

“Its been so long since we have had a get together”Jessica Martin said as she stared at everyone at the table
“It is! Thank God we spare a day out of our busy life”Drake Marshall replied
“I thought others will be here too, how come we are just five in numbers?”Alicia asked
“They must be busy, let’s just stick with ourselves”Claire replied as she stared at two of her friends who were seated along with Alicia, herself and Ben.
After hours of switching off her phone, she finally switched it on and was checking through the message box while her friends chatted amongst themselves.
There were message from Andrew asking her to let them meet soon, she didn’t want to see him not after what he told her last night and luckily it’s the weekend,so she won’t have to see him until Monday when she can give him her resignation letter.
“What about Cindy? I thought she will be here”Jessica asked
“You two are still dating right?”Drake asked Ben who stared at Claire briefly before answering.
“Yes we are and she is on…..here she is”Ben said and they all, except Claire looked up at her entrance.
Claire who was still reading Andrew message didn’t even notice that Cindy was talking to her until Alicia touched her.
“What?”Claire asked
“I was just saying hello “Cindy answered for herself and Claire acknowledge her greeting.
Ever since the party she hasn’t seen Cindy or Ben and surprisingly she didn’t even think about him ever since that night.
“Why did the bitch have to show up, I feel like pulling her eyes out”Alicia muttered into Claire ears
“You must be doing something important for you not noticing Cindy entrance”Drake said to Claire, starring at the phone in her hand.
“Am just checking up some stuff “Claire replied
“What sort of stuff? Don’t tell us that you have a secret boyfriend you are hiding from us?”Jessica asked jokingly
“What do you mean by secret boyfriend? I doubt Claire even has an admirer around her, she is too busy with work to notice anyone and i doubt if anyone noticed her too”Cindy said bitchingly
“What do you know about Claire to come to that kind of conclusion. Just so you know Claire has someone who notices her and he is not someone ordinary”Alicia butted in
“Alicia”Claire called gently but Alicia was too angry to listen to her
“Who are you talking about?”Jessica and drake asked at the same time
“Just some one, a very rich and competent Ceo, His name is Andrew Black, must have heard of him right? He is Claire boyfriend”Alicia said starring at Cindy who sat looking speechless
“Did someone just call my name”A voice said and they all looked up to see Andrew starring at them.
