Chapter Eight
“You did what?”Mark asked as he watched Andrew who was seated at his desk touching his lips.
“I kissed Claire”he replied still caressing it.
“Wow! You really move fast”Mark said still surprised by Andrew confession
“I just wanted to prove to her that she is not what she claim to be and so…..”
“And so you kissed her! Tell me the truth Drew, Do you like Miss Claire”Mark asked and Andrew found him self being reluctant to reply.
He couldn’t possibly like her, Kissing and liking some one are two different things.
“Of course not! Like have said I only did that to prove to her that I know she is a woman who prefer a guy touch and nothing more”Andrew said quickly.
“Fine then if you say so. What about Sofia? I called our friends back home and they confirmed it for me, your mother has prepare everything,all you just have to do is to show up”Mark said
“I will show up but with my own fiancee”Andrew answered suddenly
“What do you mean? Have you decided to pick some one out of your blindates?”Mark asked
“They are all boring and most of them are actually gold diggers”He replied
“So who have you cho….don’t tell me that you consider…”
“Yes, Claire Maxwell will be the fiancee I take back to Australia with me”Andrew confirmed Mark words
“You really have fallen for her”Mark said not surprised at all
“I fall for no one, remember my motto?”Andrew asked
“Have them all but love them not”Mark replied
“I have never fallen in love and I never will and besides it’s not going to be real, she will be going as my fake fiancee and when my mom is convinced that am serious with her and when she gets off my back. The pretence will stop and she returns here while I continue my life in Australia”Andrew said having it all planned.
“Okay let’s say you put this plan into action, do you think Claire will accept, I don’t think she will do it”Mark said uncertainly
“What do you mean? She was willing to make a fool out of me during the date, so she will be willing to do it now, I will certainly pay her”Andrew replied
“Well if you say so”
“I do say so, she will do it, after all am her boss and with the money she will be receiving from me, she wouldn’t say no, I have it all planned out and besides we are both having dinner this evening, I intend to tell her then”Andrew said as he looked at his watch.
“She must have received the package already”He added softly
“What package?”Mark asked
“While trying to avoid me, she slipped along the hall way and poured coffee on herself, you should have seen her, Claire is really one funny lady and I think the time I will be spending with her will be fun”Andrew said as he smiled to himself.

“Are you sure this is for me?”Claire asked as she stared at the delivery guy.
“If you are Miss Claire Maxwell then it certainly is yours”He replied giving her his phone to sign on it, she did and as soon as he left Brenda and Grace came to inspect the package
“Who bought this for you miss Claire”Grace said as they she and Brenda opened the box to reveal a white gown.
“Oh my! This is a very expensive clothe, I know that because have been longing to get one”Brenda said as they both stared at it
“Whoever bought you this is certainly loaded”Brenda added
“He must also be thoughtful, seems like he must have known about your clothe being ruined by the coffee, Hurry and wear it”Grace said as she passed Claire the clothe.
Not wanting to make a fuss and feeling relieved to have a change of clothes, Claire went into the rest room to change into the gown.
Who could have gotten this clothe for her, judging from its texture it really is very expensive, she thought as she stared at herself in the mirror.
She was still admiring the clothe on herself when the thought suddenly came to her.
It couldn’t have been Andrew but he is the only one she knew who could afford this kind of thing, not that Alicia isn’t rich but she wouldn’t buy this sort of thing except there is a special occasion.
She would have to go to the dinner,if she had to thank him for getting the clothe for her.
It was just past Six, she still had some work to finish and after that, she would go to the dinner and apologise and also do her best to cut him out of her life, that’s the best thing to do if she wants to be rid of him and she desperately wants that.
In front of Ben restaurant, Andrew stood by his car waiting for Claire to show up, it was exactly five minutes past seven and she wasn’t here yet.
Did she really decide not to come, he thought as he brought out his phone to call her.
On the third ring she picked which surprised him.
“Am on my way sir, am running there as we speak. Oh! I can see you”She said into the receiver
“Where?”He asked as he looked around only to see some one running towards him in a white gown.
She had been running and though the wind had tousled her hair from all the running, she still looked beautiful and the gown he had bought her certainly complimented her curves, making her to look very very sexy.
Andrew gulped down an imaginary spit and cut the call, trying to calm his raging hormones before she got to him.
“Am sorry! I was busy putting some last details on a project, I lost track of time and……”
“It doesn’t matter as long as you here, shall we go in,am starving”Andrew said quickly cutting her off ,not because he was angry but because of her sweet delicate perfume which was tantalising his nostrils.
“Are you angry?”She asked suddenly and he turned to stare at her
“Of course not, It happen with me at times, I some times lose track of time while working”he said quickly.
“Thats a relief then”she said giving him a smile before walking off
“What’s wrong with me?”He muttered as he could feel his heart beating fast.
“Aren’t you coming sir?”She called and quickly he regained himself following her.
One of the waitress was showing them to their table when Ben walked towards them.
“My God Claire! You look different”he said starring at her with a different look in his eyes, A look which Andrew didn’t like.
“Really? Thank you”Claire replied blushing by his compliment
“There are a lot of customers, I need your…..”
“Sorry Ben but Claire is having dinner with me tonight”Andrew said as he moved towards Claire putting an arm around her shoulders.
Ben stared at the arm which was around Claire and then at Andrew and some thing like anger passed briefly in his eyes before he masked it with a smile.
“Really?”He asked now starring at Claire
“I just need to discuss some things with Mr Black and then I will change and help”Claire said as she gently moved away from Andrew embrace
“Okay then, I will be waiting, enjoy your meal Mr Black”he said as he walked back to the kitchen.
Why is he angry when he feels nothing for her, Andrew thought as they both took their seat.
“You said they were things to discuss sir, so I would like it if we can go over them quickly, I still have to work”Claire said as soon as she was seated
“Do you like him that much?”Andrew found himself asking instead of just minding his own business.
“What?”Claire asked definitely surprised by his question.
“Am not a fool Claire, I know you like the chef”he said
“If I like Ben or not is not some thing for you to concern yourself with”Claire replied quickly
“Its some thing I have to concern myself with because you are now my concern “He added himself and that got Claire silent.
What did he mean by that? She thought as the waitress Brought the menu to them.
“Well anyway,we came here to talk about what happened during the blind date. I know you are angry by our deception and Nick my brother made every thing worse by behaving like a fool, Let me apologise for everything, Am sorry,Very very sorry”Claire apologised.
“If saying sorry solve everything in this world then there won’t be the need of police officers”he said starring at her.
“Then what more should I do? You aren’t some one who hold grudges right?”Claire asked
“Like I told Alicia, I am some one who does, I don’t forgive neither do I forget, an eye for an eye”he replied
“You wouldn’t really sue Nick right?”Claire asked now scared after hearing his words
“That depends on you”he replied
“On me?”Claire asked
Sitting like the CEO he is, he crossed his arms and smiled at her
“Just three, go on three dates with me”he said
“What!”Claire said surprised by his suggestion.
“You heard me”he replied
“Wait a minute! Do you like me or perhaps have you fallen in love with me?”Claire asked.
The last thing she wanted was him getting attached to her.
“Of….of course not”he replied and she relaxed in her seat
“What makes you think so?”Andrew asked
“Well your offer of the date made me think so but if you don’t like me, why are you asking me to go on three dates with you?”Claire asked in return
“I just want you to make it up to me, if this three date go well as I expect, I will let it all go”Andrew replied
“And if it do…….”she didn’t get to finish her sentence because some one walking in stole her attention.
Andrew followed her gaze and saw a sexy brunette, she walked past them and went towards Ben. On seeing her Ben gave her a smile and she kissed him in return.
Andrew found himself starring at Claire who was now starring at the table, Clutching her hands tightly, fighting back the tears which threatened to pour.
Andrew saw Ben and the girl he was with coming towards their table.
“Hello Claire”the girl greeted.
“Hello Cindy, It’s a surprise to see you here”Claire replied trying to mask her pain with a plastered smile on her face.
“Didn’t Ben tell you that I was coming tonight?”Cindy asked starring at Ben
“I was going to but you had a guest”Ben replied
“Ben and I got back together”Cindy said looking at Claire maliciously and on purpose she kissed Ben again.
What a show off,Andrew thought as he stared at Claire who was doing her best to hold back the tears.
“And who is this?”Cindy asked starring at him with a lot of interest
“Well am Andrew,Andrew Black, Claire boss “He replied
“If you are Claire boss then you must be the Black everyone knows in the business industry”Cindy said eyeing him with a keen interest
“Am not sure if am the only black in the world but if you are talking about the business industry then I think I might be the one”Andrew replied making Cindy laugh.
“You’ve won yourself a jack pot Claire, if I were you I would hold onto him”Cindy said to Claire as she stared at Andrew.
“Cindy”Ben call made her stop whatever thing she is planning
“Claire doesn’t have a guy in her life and knowing who Mr Black is, it’s been said that he is single, am just trying to do some match making”Cindy said eyeing Claire with so much hatred.
“I think it’s best if we just head to the kitchen, excuse us “Ben said as he pulled Cindy off.
“Am sorry but can we leave”Claire said and with out waiting for his reply, she took her bag and head out of the restaurant.
Putting some bill on the table, Andrew went after her.
“Meeting the girl he chose over you certainly made it clear that he has no sense at all”Andrew said as he walked beside Claire who had grew very silent
“Just forget him,he isn’t worth your tears Claire, Sleep it off tonight and it will be okay tomorrow”He added and she stopped suddenly.
“Okay? To sleep it off and feel okay, Have been doing that and not once has the ache in here stopped”Claire said touching her chest.
“And so? Will you spend the rest of your hoping he will notice you and dump his girlfriend, well you should wake up, that’s not reality Claire,it’s a fool’s dream”Andrew said harshly
“And what do you know about my dream? You don’t know me neither do you know what my dream is? If you are going to be annoying then it’s best you leave first”Claire said wiping off the tears from her face.
“You are wrong if you think I don’t know you, I do and this is not the woman you are Claire, you are strong, you pull off every situation easily, you get back on your feet when its hard. Be that person now, don’t let yourself be ruined by a guy who is not worth it “Andrew replied as he held her by her shoulders
The both of them stood starring at each other for a while, it was Claire who broke the look first.
“Get your hands off me”she said softly and he did.
“Have any one ever told you that you are a jerk! “she asked suddenly
“You will be the first”he replied
“You are a jerk,you really are”She said as she began to move away from him
“Claire I….”
“”Stay away from me or better yet, pretend not knowing me and I will also do the same” with that said, she walked off leaving Andrew standing there, watching her go.
